Review of Japanese Story (2003) by Jason Y — 27 Jun 2004
Japanese Story is an interesting and unusual romantic drama that dramatically changes stream midway through the film. The film involves an Australian geologist, played by the wonderful Toni Collette, who is hired, very much against her will, to drive a Japanese businessman around the Australian desert.
The film begins like most romantic dramas with two mismatched people falling in love after surviving a difficult situation. The movie takes a surprising change in direction, however, midway through the film that reveals the real focus of the film: the characters.
Toni Collette was outstanding and deserved recognition for her effort. If you like romantic dramas, you will like and appreciate this film.
