Review of Jane Eyre (2011) by Adrian Z — 09 Oct 2011
3 - Slow moving (even when so much of the book is apparently left out), and somewhat aloof adaptation of the literary classic. Sure, it's competently acted, and has some excellent period detail, but it seems stuck on the one note throughout most of the film.
Mia Wasikowska as Jane Eyre is inscrutable most of the time. It's odd that a character who is supposedly outspoken comes across as so restrained all the time. Fortunately, the last third of the film, where interest picks up, redeems the film and does justice to what is basically a good story.
