This adaptation would perhaps be okay at best as a movie not based on Charlotte Brontë's novel. As it stands, the movie beings with a timeline that has been cut and pasted from the novel in an incomprehensible order for anyone who has not read the story.
The movie continues on to omit important events of Brontë's novel, and finishes with a change of character relationships and plot. Fukunaga's Jane Eyre is a disappointing screen adaptation of an excellent work of literature.
