Review of Jane Eyre (2011) by Dann M — 14 Jan 2012
Jane Eyre is a wonderful modern adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's classic tale of a woman's triumph over adversity. Orphaned as a child, Jane Eyre is sent off to boarding school and eventually becomes a governess to a troubled household.
Director Cary Fukunaga does an eloquent job at moving the story while building suspense and mystery. Mia Wasikowska is brilliant in the lead role of Jane Eyre, giving a subtle and powerful performance.
And Michael Fassbender, as Edward Fairfax Rochester, continues to show great range and diversity as an actor. The score by Dario Marianelli also helps to enhance the mood and tone of the story as it progresses from drama to mystery to romance.
Jane Eyre is a compelling film with great performances that bring this classic tale to life.
