Review of James and the Giant Peach (1996) by James S — 04 Aug 2010
A truely bizarre movie in typical Roald Dahl story fashion.
But I love the stop motion animation and will always be a big fan of it. This movie is full of Selick's style that everyone whose seen A NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is familar with.
The voice acting is great by everyone and I enjoyed Dreyfuss the most as the Centipede. Even though Terry is touch and go sometimes he was good enough to make me wish he hadn't retired so early. Postlethwaite makes a great strange old man too.
If your a fan of Dahl then you won't be disappointed here, because the story is just as strange and orignal as all his other works, so you'll be sure to enjoy it.
It's movies like this one that makes me miss the stop motion days and hate the CGI days that we seem to be stuck in lately.
"She won't be coming down here with the spray. She'll be coming down here with a shovel. It happened to m' brother. Split him right down the middle. Now I have two half-brothers. ".
