Review of Jade (1995) by Will D — 03 Jan 2011
Bah. From the writer of Basic Instinct, it's kind of a reprisal of that story all over again, except stupider. It's also really lazy. How much racist cliche can we put in a movie? Let's have all white people, but have some mysterious chinese symbol meaning 'Jade' which is the key to the whole movie, which of course is the kinky character we're trying to find (who turns out to be a white chick's freaky alter-ego, I mean really?).
Oh, and let's totally randomly have a red-headed David Caruso waltz into Chinatown and talk to some old Chinese guy at the back of any random restaurant who will tell him all the secrets. Oh yeah, and let's have a fucking car chase through a Chinese New Year's parade celebration and run over and KILL like a thousand people that nobody cares about or notices or deals with at all? wtf? Also, stupidest ending line EVER.
William Friedkin did his best with this garbage script, but it's just so 1-dimensional and flat I really couldn't give a shit.
