Review of Jacob's Ladder (1990) by Gareth L — 18 Nov 2008
This film is one serious 'Mind fuck!' tim robbins' visual nightmare plays out in the new york streets after the government santion the development of a drug which will make each soldier more angry and the perfect fighting machine.
we are trapped inside jacobs hallucanigenic state as he sees demons and how he fights to prove that he was drugged by the army. we dont know where he is in his life (with his ex wife and kids) or with jezzey and dreaming about his kids and ex.
we see at the end that its neither and he is dying and its all been in his mind, which is a good ending. the only problem is (when he is in the hallucanagenic state how does he find out that he was drugged? from the hippy drug maker, but that is in his mind, is his subconsious telling him that he may have been drugged and inturn he created the character of the drug hippy to make himself understand.
either way its one seriously weird film but a good one.
