A hallucinatory, metaphorical horror film, with Tim Robbins in one of his best roles ever. It started with the usual vet scarred by the dehumanizing effects of war, which is a common staple for loner films.

But as the film went on, it became a metaphysical journey into hell and back, nightmares and redemption, in the fashion of Dante's Inferno, all with the help of an unwanted LSD. "Jacob's Ladder" is not one of those twisty horror films one would watch just to be entertained, or mind to be stimulated, but it is a film that needs to be felt, as its biblical elements were very healthy for believers to be completely ignored.

Apart from that, this is a proof that the scariest form of horror are not those supernatural entities, but the nightmarish hell that comes from within.
