Review of Jacob's Ladder (1942) by Andrew H — 01 Dec 2011
Without a doubt, one of the strangest experiences I've ever had while watching a movie. This movie is a major mind-fuck. Despite you not knowing what is going on most of the time, it keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way through. You're always wondering: What's gonna happen next? What's real & what's fake? And that's the power of the film, its originality.
Is it a psycological thriller, drama, horror? Or maybe it's all just taken into a blender and mixed up brilliantly. Tim Robbins is great in the leading role and you really go through all this torturing experience with him, which I can only describe as a trip of madness!!!
Ebert said in his review: It's not a pleasant experience to watch, but not every movie needs to be fun. For this movie, those words are as true as they can get.
