Review of Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (2013) by Arslan K — 14 Aug 2014
As someone who isn't extremely familiar with the prank films in the vein of Jackass, I was quite surprised by this. The leading duo, Johnny Knoxville's titular grandpa (expertly done up as an old man in make-up well worth the Oscar nomination it was given) and Jackson Nicoll's Billy have great on-screen chemistry that's quite nice to see develop as their exploits continue (often, it would seem, without Nicoll expecting them to, judging by his genuine surprise to some of the jokes).
However, a number of the pranks do fall a bit flat, or in some cases start out funny but lose their appeal as they try to keep them going, and once you've seen the film, I'd say it's unlikely it will continue to charm in repeated viewings.
If you're in the mood, though, it's a bit of good fun, if not in good taste (but if you came expecting that, you're most certainly in the wrong place).
