Review of Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (2007) by Christian B — 24 Jul 2008
Thank you Rue-Morgue and Anchor Bay for hosting the Toronto screening of Jack Brooks. Great to see the cast and crew in attendance and the Q&A was very entertaining - especially Robert Englund. Jack Brooks is a tongue-in-cheek homage to the horror comedies of the 1980s.
Great practical effects at work here - make-up, prosthetics, creature costumes. No CGI crap here. Very impressive for a 'Canadian' independent film. You can sense the love, blood, sweat and tears that went into making this, as everything's shown on screen! The ending leaves a potential sequel open and I would welcome a 'Canadian' franchise of Jack Brooks :).
