Review of Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (2007) by Kayne M — 22 Oct 2008
Answers the age-old question: "What would happen if the Super Mario Brothers film had directed in the style of Evil Dead or Mortal Kombat?".
I watched this in coach class on a cross-country flight, mostly because it was the only movie I had with me. Robert Englund does a surprisingly good job of physical comedy. However, it takes far too long - nearly an hour - to get to the tentacled bits, and a film like this that doesn't involve at least two fire hoses of blood seems a bit lacking.
Note to self: the NY Times movies columnists are a weird lot.
