Review of Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (2007) by Lee B — 22 Jun 2009
The advertising and reviews made me think we had another Ash on our hands. We don't. The DVD cover promises so much more than delivered. While no-one can deny he fights 'monsters', I wanted more monstery type monsters (ala monster squad) rather than buffyesque zombies.
A fat Robert Englad also dissapoints. Jack Brooks ( the character) just isn't likeable enough as a hero. Sure he's surly, but not in cool Han Solo way or anything, he's just not likeable. I would have had a more variety of monsters as well as a huge nasty monster that poses a real threat,as oppose to an immobile mouth.
And a cooler hero. Just realised there were NO fancy quips when someone died, no Arnie moments or 'Groovy's. I hoped for much more. Still, he does look a bit cooler at the end...
