Review of Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (2007) by Scott P — 27 Oct 2009
An entertaining but overrated comedic horror flick. For low budget genre fare, it's impressively well-crafted and the old school creature effects are really cool. Robert England gives his best performance in quite some time.
Ultimately though, there's nothing new here. The characters are really underwritten and everything plays out predictably. Also, the pace is a bit sluggish and nothing really happens until the third act.
The action in its finale is pretty fun. Genre fans should find enough stuff here to satisfy.
