Review of Jabberwocky (1977) by Jared M — 03 Apr 2009
It was rather hard to get into this film. Gilliam must have still been used to directing as a Python because although the film tried to maintain a straightforward narrative, it kept getting sidetracked by strangely placed humor.
As much as I am obsessed with the Pythons it was just not enough of a departure to be classified as a Gilliam film. The strange mixture had me confused. I actually did start to generate interest in the story around the point where Dennis rides off in search of the Jabberwock.
I also must add that I found the Jabberwock an impressive piece of puppetry for its time. I tried hard to find strings and whatnot and it was hard to spot anything. Well done.
