Review of Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012) by Kanon H — 11 Dec 2012
JTHJ falls in line with his last directorial venture Veer Zaara dwelling into the genre of romantic/drama. The movie is intensely focused on delivering a mature story to the viewer instead of a through & through entertainer. This is not in the same league of Dil Tho Pagal Hai which to date remains one of the most ENTERTAINING movies Yash Chopra has ever directed. With time his methods have changed as we witnessed in Veer Zaara and while JTHJ does have a modern feeling to it in its settings the two movies are tonally extremely similar.
Nonetheless due to brilliant yet subtle direction capabilities, another strong performance from SRK and a well rounded cast including Katrina Kaif who unlike in her other blockbuster movies play a pivotal role within the plot of the movie,JTHJ can be considered a truly wonderful cinematic film reminding the richness of the director yash chopra at a period where story and message takes a rear seat in modern hindi films giving room to flare, action and paper thin plots.
