After watching this film, I took a look at some of the other reviews out there. Interestingly, many of the critics reviews seemed less balanced. One felt that the film wasn't entertaining. It would be entirely wrong though if this was more comedic. It's a biopic about a serious man wgo created an organisation that changed the USA and the nature of crime fighting.

This film was full of political intrigue and really delved into the many facets of Hoover's life. It is true to say that he wasn't an angel, but he was also far from pure evil. He had a commitment to what he felt was right. Unfortunately, his work often went unchecked.

There were so many great performances - Di Caprio's in particular. Armie Hammer was good in his supporting role and showed that his character was as much of a conscience as he was a loyal friend.

Hoover's personal life is well documented and analysed. I do feel that his personal relationship with Tolson could have played less of a part, but it would have been wrong to ignore it completely.

Overall, this is an excellent (but not perfect film) that is multi-faceted and features great performances. It's really worth watching.
