Review of Ivanhoe (1952) by Kevin R — 12 Mar 2016
I am my father's daughter.
King Richard has gone missing and Ivanhoe was his first knight. Richard's weasely brother John has taken over the throne and run the land's and taxes to levels where no one can survive. Ivanhoe seeks out to rescue the king and bring him back to power.
"I have a taste for beauty and love for money.".
Richard Thorpe, director of Jailhouse Rock, The Thin Man Goes Home, Vengeance Valley, Athena, The Golden Head, Black Hand, and Malaya, delivers Ivanhoe. The storyline for this picture has a strong Robin Hood feel to it. The action was classic but a little corny and the characters were fun and well written. The cast delivers solid performances and includes Robert Taylor, Elizabeth Taylor, Joan Fontaine, George Sanders, and Finlay Currie.
"You have no king and I have no son.".
I randomly came across this on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and had to DVR it. I love these old Elizabeth Taylor movies and she was a very impactful character in this film. I enjoyed the storyline and watching this picture unfold. This is definitely worth watching once.
"His homage was to beauty, not faith.".
Grade: B+.
