The book is terrible. I don't know how it got made into a movie in the first place. That being said, the movie is slightly better than the book, but fails to deliver anything funny. However, great acting by Keir Gilchrist, Emma Roberts, and Zach Galifianakas, along with a unique plot lands this at a 4 out of 10.
Disappointing is an understatement. Rent it on DVD.
