Review of It's a Wonderful Life (1946) by Dov D — 17 Jul 2013
It's a Wonderful Life is so much more than simply a wonderful film, it's a story that has captured the hearts and minds of people for half a century and continues to today. This is one of the few examples of a film made over sixty years ago that is just as powerful today as when it was first released.
Directed by one of the greatest auteurs in history (Frank Capra), starring one of the greatest actors (James Stewart) and one of the greatest actresses (Donna Reed) in history, this cornerstone of cinematic achievement revolutionized the way films could impact the public more than any other (aside from maybe The Bicycle Thief).
The acting is perfect, the direction is spectacular, the script is impeccable and the emotion unparalleled. Bottom line, literally everyone should watch this film. One of the few truly transcendent pieces of cinema out there.
