Review of Italian for Beginners (2000) by France L — 21 Jun 2008
A small, charming Dogme 95 film telling a story about six(more or less frustrated) people living in a godforsaken place in Denmark. whose paths cross at the local Italian course. When the course teacher dies, they become friends and after a few twists, they end up in Venice where they find love.
I love films with no celebrity actors because it's much harder to catch the audience's attention if you're not a celebrity. Besides the naturalist approach to acting, the good photography made you feel like an intruder in the character's lives.
The bakery girl's father was a really cool character. This film fits into the same category as Chocolat-it makes you feel good.
