Review of It! The Terror from Beyond Space (1958) by Todd S — 29 Sep 2005
This film was credited as being at least a partial inspiration for the movie Alien. Some scenes clearly have a few similarities. For the era it was made in it isn?t a horrible film at all. The basic story is pretty good. The rest of the film hangs around the average mark..
I didn?t give it higher marks due some of the smaller flaws the film holds that eventually add up. Things like the crew using grenades, toxic gas bombs, and eventually even a bazooka on board their fairly small spaceship. Another example is the creature is finally destroyed when they evacuate the air on the ship. They figure out by its high oxygen consumption that this would do the trick..
First, anything that breathes can be suffocated so that shouldn?t have been a last resort or leap of scientific genius to try it. Second, does it make sense that this creature, apparently a native of the planet Mars, has a high oxygen consumption? Mars isn?t exactly known for its heavy Oxygen content. .
