Review of It Might Get Loud (2008) by Leslie M — 15 Aug 2011
Jimmy Page, Jack White and the Edge put together in a room to both discuss and play the electric guitar? A documentary that encapsulates both this and the guitarists backstories? How could this have possibly gone wrong! I loved every second of this documentary, it was inspiring and just plain cool.
Jack White did some really fascinating stuff with his independent screen time and Jimmy Page is awesome to watch doing just about anything. My only complaint would be that they made the Edge look like a bit of a loser.
They used too many clips of him complaining about not being good enough and worrying if he can keep it up, and they paired the scene where he talks about using effects in direct contrast with Jack White's little speech about real musicians not needing such things.
The other thing was the documentary never went into any detail about U2 or Led Zeppelin, but this wasn't a documentary about the bands, it was about the guitar players. Putting these 3 characters in a room and just having them talk lead to much better content than any script ever could, and by the end they all seemed really comfortable with one another.
It was a joy to watch.
