Review of It Happened One Night (1958) by Bonnie N — 20 Nov 2009
This film is credited as among the first "screwball" comedies, and it provided a charming and well-needed escape from the reality of the Depression. Colbert and Gable shine as the mismatched couple who come together under crazy circumstances and eventually fall in love.
There are so many great moments such as the infamous hitch hiking scene, Gable putting up the "walls of Jericho," and the doughnut dunking lesson that make it a charming and memorable film. One interesting fact is that Colbert thought the film was the worst film ever made, yet it did incredibly well at the box office and won multiple Oscars.
