Review of It Happened One Night (1934) by Ruba E — 27 Dec 2009
" - Peter: Excuse me lady, but that upon which you sit is mine.
- Ellie: I beg your pardon? ".
So this is where all the modern romantic comedies from ?!
This is the second black and white movie i've seen and it was a film with a nice story (i guess this idea for a rom-com might have been original and new in the 30's). so Ellie (Colbert) is a spoiled girl who's looking for a way to go back to her lover/husband and Peter (Gable, whom I liked in Gone with the Wind) is a reporter who helps Ellie just to have a good story for the newspaper. this movie has lots of funny, sweet and memorable scenes that makes it nice to watch.
Oh, my favorite scene was the one where the detective comes in the cottage where Peter and Ellie are and then Peter starts arguing with her as if she was his wife in order to confuse the detective in thinking she's another woman; I liked that scene.
