Review of It Happened One Night (1934) by Norm D — 21 May 2017
~ If you're a film buff, this one is a must-see. It kicks-off the genre of the rom-com &/or the screwball comedy. Not originally expected to do much business, word-of-mouth built an audience and it scored Best Picture, putting Columbia on the movie studio map.
~ The Joseph Walker cinematography is gorgeous throughout regardless of the fact that film emulsions were slow & camera mechanisms & lenses weren't Panavision Platinums. ~ The entertainment of the day seems almost corny.
But there's a lot going-on of a suggestive nature. Clark Gable seems an actor of limited craft, breadth, & depth. But his look & presence covers the defects. In all, an early Capra classic.
