Review of It Follows (2015) by Maximumd — 19 Jul 2015
A good horror movie will leave just enough things open to interpretation that it keeps things interesting without fully explaining every little detail. I think this one just leaves a smidgen too much of a loose end.
The creep factor of this movie was spot on though. I kept watching the background of pretty much every scene to see if the thing was approaching far off in the distance. The movie succeeds in creating a constant felling of tension and dread.
I had to knock it down a few points for the lackluster ending however. I guess the movie was too long for it's own good and they should have wrapped things up a little sooner. I know some people didn't like this movie but to give it an outright 0 or 1 is ludicrous.
I would give an 8, but I'll have to bump it up to an artificial 9 to counter all the ridiculous ratings. If you liked the Grudge or Carpenter's The Thing, you'll probably enjoy this too. Not a masterpiece, just a good horror flick with some interesting concepts and good camera work.
