Review of It Follows (2015) by Christopher A — 19 Jan 2016
How this movie gets 97 is beyond me. How so many people think this movie is good is even more puzzling. What is good about it?
In my opinion it looked like a sub par student film. Please explain to me why 90% of the camera shots had to be a zoom, pan, tilt, dolly/tracking shot? Is it because the movie is called "It Follow" so the camera has to 'follow' all the characters? If so, that may sound clever, but it just seemed well overdone, plus it made the movie's pacing even slower than it already was.
And thats another thing...slowest...movie...ever!
So what are the rules? We know Freddy can only get you in your sleep, Jason cant do water, dont watch the tape and The Ring girl can't get you, etc. What are the rules of "It" other than banging someone else to pass it off to them? We don't know. And that, for lack of a better word, is stupid.
But how do we even know that rule? Hugh tells Jay. But how did he find out? He said he didnt remember the girl he got it from, so who told him?
If I'm just sitting there minding my business and notice someone walking towards me REALLY, REALLY SLOWLY, I may think its weird, I may think its creepy, I may even run away. But under no circumstances will it just pop into my head that this person is following cuz I just screwed that chick. And even further from my consideration would be sleeping with someone else so that it starts following her and not me.
And what the hell year is it supposed to be? Old ass tvs, old ass phone, but cell phones (girl in the beginning), and that weird makeup ereader thing seemed like something relatively current.
I'll give it to them that its somewhat original, but it made no sense at all. The kids never have an actual plan of attack. Why not just go to Japan or something. The thing is so damn slow that by the time it walked there you'd be like 90 and wouldnt give a shit anymore.
I was honestly expecting this movie to score in the 30s, maybe...MAYBE in the 40s. But 97! WHY?!
