Review of It Follows (2015) by Bridie D — 15 Oct 2016
I loved this movie, the setting, the soundtrack, the cinematography, the characters, all suberb and brilliant. what I really enjoyed was their approach on scares, instead of cheap jumpscare tactics, they focused to drag the scare factor across several minutes with use of great tension and the 'Jaws' effect.
So much creativity and ambitious visuals. It makes you think, allowing you to let your imagination run wild. The fact that you know 'the monster' takes shape of people, I couldn't help watching the background for people that seemed to walk towards the main characters, and that I think was really great.
Me wanting to really explore the whole of the movie. The only shame is that the scares in the house, and on the beach were so amazing, I'd want a bit more like that. The story in the end is a bit thin, but ambiguous, which in some cases I really enjoy.
The cinematography and soundtrack homages the 80's horror classics like Halloween and it's just gorgeous. To think that this is David Robert Mitchell's second film is amazing, a really well done movie.
