Review of It Comes at Night (2017) by Bkristman — 11 Jun 2017
Film about a family in a post-apocalyptic time where a disease has decimated the population....maybe.... blah blah blah and their experience after meeting up with another family .
Extremely grim.
It starts out decently and ramps up your expectations for awhile but then doesn't go anywhere at all really.
It's pretty short, under an hour and a half and it just abruptly ends like they ran out of financing.
It's supposed to be artsy slice of life social commentary in a Lord of the Flies way I suppose but.
Isn't satisfying in that respect either.
It has creepy bits but then the payoffs for these bits are something just pedestrian.
There's no mysticism at all even though they try to trick you into thinking there might be using one character's dreams.
You never find out what the disease is or see a wider view of than this little 1 house microcosm where the action occurs.
I don't watch the shows but I assume this is what the Walking Dead must be like only without the dead and shot in only 2 rooms.
Sad film.
