Review of It Comes at Night (2017) by Moviemitch96 — 08 Jun 2017
In my opinion, this was definitely leaps and bounds an improvement over the God-awful family drama 'Krisha', a fellow A24 distributed film which was this film's director Trey Edward Shults' directorial debut.
However, unfortunately that's not saying much in my book, because this fell a bit short of my expectations as well. Because of its status as an indie film, I knew that most of the horror and scares in the film would come off as rather subtle.
This proved to be true, but unfortunately, it proved to be a bit too slow of a burn for me, and this was one of those films where I felt that a little too much was left to our imagination. They really couldn't find a good balance for this.
As for the acting, Joel Edgerton gave a strong lead performance, as did Christopher Abbott among some of the others. Lastly, I will say that I was a bit disappointed with the ending as well and definitely found myself wanting a bit more.
Overall, it was an intriguing and interesting premise that definitely wasn't brought to its full potential in my opinion.
