In comparison to the "IT" film from 1990, this film is far better. Rather than relying on flashbacks to show the adult/child stories 27 years apart, the movie is "Chapter 1" - based strictly on the character's childhood terror and tees it up nicely for the sequel which will be set 27 years later.
The film also did a nice job shedding some light on the background of Pennywise and the coinciding plagued town history. Overall great flick, but could have been scarier.
