Review of It (2017) by Flexedacorn — 17 Sep 2017
The new reboot of “IT”, will go down as one of my top favorite horror films of all time. Not because it was scary, but because it had what a lot of newer horror films seem to lack… substance **Slight Spoilers** Some of the criticism I have read of this film was that it was slow, boring, not scary etc.
All are valid concerns for someone looking for a standard horror film to do nothing but scare them, but “It” is not your standard horror film. It was not the frights that pulled me in but rather a coming of age story supplemented by a great supporting cast.
Though Penny wise the clown was creepy enough, it was the more contemporary villain that came across as more menacing. Each of the main kids had some sort of character flaw or villain they had to overcome, which really added more depth to this compelling tale.
For me there is only one other Stephen King adaptation ranked as high and that is Stanly Kubrick’s version of The Shining. This is a must see for fans of Stephen King or anyone looking for a different sort of horror.
