Even though I haven't seen the original (1990) what I can say is that I've seen the SCARIEST movie of the year SO FAR and probably some of the MOST SATISFYING ones. "It" should be an example about how scary movies should work nowadays: Packaged with laughs/tension/action/mystery, all'em genuinely crafted. Basically what is a win here, is all in the losers-gang and of course how well Mr. Muschietti's directing skills were. However this movie earned some few sins because of the bullies' gang and the excessive use of the blood. Firstly I know they represent the "bad-guys" but come on, the producers really misunderstood (and even exceeded completely) the meaning between criminals-bullies (so it was oversteped as well as the blood-stuff).
But generally what they brought to us, was what people were looking forward (because Annabelle 2 was just OK) from scary movies, because appart from the book and the cast. "It".
Had that charming thing which was missing ultimately.
