Review of Isle of Dogs (2018) by Leslie M — 23 Apr 2018
Yeah, it's whimsical, duh. A very sweet story about a boy and his (well, a bunch of dogs really. mostly not the one he's looking for) dog, just dark enough to not be a Laika Studio's effort. Hugely improved stop-motion puppeteering over Wes' previous (much more Kid's Movie-ish) effort , and better character design. I liked the conciet that the human (Japanese) characters all spoke Japanese but some subtitles would've been nice? There's several major speeches that are completely un-translated, so you have to figure out what was said by characters reactions.
Two thumbs up.
