Better than you've heard indeed. Although loaded with your typical and somewhat pathetic 1980's comedic stereotypes, Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman are a surprisingly good coupling. The two seem to be off script and riffing off each other much off the time and the result is quite a few extemporaneous and very funny sequences.
These moments are what really make the movie...let go of your grandiose expectations and enjoy!
