Review of Irreversible (2002) by Nate B — 11 Oct 2009
I don?t know why a lot of critics and reviewers overlook the fact that this film has a truly heartfelt story at its center, all the while overlooking that fact, brandish it with poor and negative out cries.
Yeah, this sucker hits hard, real hard, but it?s not pummeling you with any violence without a reason. Perhaps without the two most controversial scenes in this movie, could you truly care about the characters making the subject on hand all the more essential for the story? It?s kinda like getting punched in the face by a six year old and getting punched in the face by Chuck Liddell, the latter of which will leave more of a lasting effect that you won?t soon forget.
A typical revenge story is given the ?Memento? treatment and a host of artistic flourishes that ultimately raise this film above the average thriller drama. Hard to watch for sure, but the end result is worth every minute spent watching.
