Review of Irreversible (2002) by Nelson P — 13 Mar 2011
I really don't care what people say about Gaspar Noe, the man is a utter genius, and "Irreversible" will go down as the crown jewel of his filmography. It's obviously not for everybody, but art isn't always easy to digest.
The obvious comparison would be Memento, but their similarities were completely superficial, nothing about the movies are remotely similar, just that they go backwards. The 15 minute long rape scene was perfect and was a complete necessity for the story, I honestly wanted it to go on longer, but a swift kick in the face at the end was sufficient enough.
There's really nothing bad about this movie or anything that needed to be changed, its a utter masterpiece that was designed to make you question your morals, and that is a little hard for some.
