Review of Irreversible (2002) by Moore S — 19 Dec 2011
This movie is genius. I haven't seen a movie that is close to the genius A Clockwork Orange has in its own sense, that is, ultra violence and some sexual scenes. It is pretty disturbing if you look at it on like a shallow sense but what movie watchers don't do is they don't look at it at the director's point of view. Like, thinking for example why is it filmed in reverse? Or the phrase, "Time destroys all things".
My own interpretation of the phrase, "Time destroys all things" in the movie is, time can "heal" (yeah cliche) the bad things that happened to a person, but at the same time, it can destroy the good things too. Which therefore, I think is the reason this film is filmed as it is, as it goes both ways. Moreover, the reason the movie ended (begin) in a happy note kind of like conveys, welp for the audience, that the happy things in life should be cherished despite we already know what's in store for them.
Moreover, if you come to think of it, it's actually how it works. It's like the movie is in the mind of person reminiscing something good while he's at a bad point in his life. You go back and remember the happy times you got when you're in a fucked up point in your life. On other terms besides the order and direction, I like the combo of brutality and sweetness this film have, and it manages to like make me feel bad (the rape scene) it is graphic (tell me about it) but the fact that it delivers more than the visual part is what really gets me. In my head when, during the rape scene, I'm like, "Good thing his face got pulverized with a fire extinguisher". In conclusion, it's an amazing movie and I'm just really glad I found out about it, definitely recommend but not for the weak heart and feeble mind.
