Review of Irreversible (2002) by Jem S — 12 Mar 2013
I've changed my rating for this film 3 times, the reason being was that this film gave me the most mixed emotions a film has ever given me. First, I was blown away by the style of this film, then I was disgusted, and now finally I have respect for this film.
While watching this, certain scenes, (especially the rape scene) are Extremely difficult to watch, in fact the entire film is hard to watch most of the time. The camera work is interesting, it makes you feel completely disorientated and dizzy, and you'll be quite annoyed at it at first, but then when you get use to it it works just the same as normal camera-work.
This film is a very very very performance driven film, with some great acting especially from Vincent Cassel, who puts himself out there with an absolutely crazy performance. The reason I watched this film was because Thomas Bangalter (one half of Daft Punk) did the music, and while the music doesn't play too big a role in the film, it still adds to the insanity of the film.
The entire film, really, is just an hour or so of insanity.
