Review of Irrational Man (2015) by Erika H — 18 Sep 2015
Emma Stone falls for a man lost but found focus when he decides to right the wrongs of the world but then got shafted in the end. If they had cast Andrew Garfield instead of Joaquin Phoenix, this could be Woody Allen's Spider-Man! But instead, it is yet another one of his filmic rumination on the existential value of life, morality and murder.
Nowhere as bad as Cassandra's Dream but neither is it anywhere close to Crimes and Misdemeanors, this is over-familiar territory for the writer-director and his fans (me included) and he has dealt with it better before.
... would've been 2.5 stars if not for the funnily nihilistic ending.
