Review of Iron Man (2008) by Dan E — 11 May 2018
The movie that kicked off the most successful franchise in history, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, "Iron Man" remains, after a decade, a perfect example of how a superhero film should be made and how a comic book character should be adapted to the big screen.
Robert Downey Jr. is perfectly cast as the playboy, billionaire, genius Tony Stark, an engineer and son of Howard Stark, a weapons manufacturer and former boss of the Stark Industries. Tony finds himself in a life threating situation that changes entirely his view on weaponry and is forced to become Iron Man.
While this is Downey's movie, the rest of the cast does a wonderful job too, bringing their comic-based characters to life. The hard work this cast, director Jon Favreau and the rest of the crew have put into this film and their respect of the source material is evident throughout its 2-plus hours running time, as the result is a fun, unforgettable, humorous but also action-packed, mature and moving story of a true hero.
The only drawback is its rather generic villain, but that is common in this genre. It's the movie that started the superhero craze and it's not hard to see why.
