Review of Iron Man 2 (2010) by Mitchell Z — 31 Jan 2015
It's nowhere near as engaging as the first film and it lacks the original's charm, but Iron Man 2 is a solid sequel that has some great action, performances, and special effects. I liked the idea behind the plot of the film, its all about legacy.
The passing of the torch to the next generation and how one family's name is renown and the other's is tainted and forgotten. I understood it, but the villains here are weakly layered and poorly executed.
Mickey Rourke simply does not fit the bill to play a genius physicist, and he is nowhere near intimidating. And Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer is another embarrassment, he is portrayed as being a doofus and a loser when he should've been more cold, it made his hatred toward Tony a little forced.
The film is basically an Avengers prequel, and Scarlett Johansson is a great addition to the film as well, but it was just missing too much of what made Iron Man great.
