Review of Iron Man (1951) by Ben B — 30 Apr 2018
Iron Man stars Robert Downey Jr. as a fictional version of himself, Tony Stark, a billionaire weapons dealer by day and womanizer by night. This is the movie that started it all for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I've been a superhero fan for as long as I can remember, watching the Batman Animated Series, Justice League, etc. growing up. I also have a soft spot for superhero origin stories, and Iron Man might be the best-made origin story to date.
For starters, the tone of this movie is light with a little bit of an edge - a perfect way to establish a superhero. RDJ was born to be Iron Man; it has become his most iconic role as an actor. The film score's rock-inspired tracks keep the energy moving throughout the story.
My one negative about this movie is a common negative among Marvel movies: the villain. Jeff Bridges does everything he can to portray the antagonist in this movie, but it was just a boring enemy for Stark to face off against.
Luckily, the majority of the movie is focused on Stark developing the Iron Man suit instead of the clashing rivalry with Stane. Is this my favorite superhero movie? No. Is it a fun, action-packed adventure with some laughs along the way? You betcha.
Go watch it, folks!
