Review of Irma la Douce (1963) by Samantha S — 17 Feb 2010
Very Parisian in its outlook. Shirley MacLaine is a delight as the working girl who captures the heart of gendarme Jack Lemmon, who will do anything to keep her from sleeping with other men. Sage advice and voiceover narration to the audience by Lou Jacobi keeps the audience apprised.
Billy Wilder could be cuttingly incisive, and this is a fine example. Look out for a quick appearance by a young Bill Bixby as a horny sailor.
