Review of Irma la Douce (1963) by Allan C — 22 Jun 2012
Overlong and somewhat disappointing re-teaming of "The Apartment" stars Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacClaine and writer/director Billy Wilder. It's certainly not a bad film, but it's a far cry from the brilliant mix of comedy and drama that was done to perfection in "The Apartment".
MacClaine is great as the title character and Lemmon too has many great moments in the film, but the story seems to drag on longer than necessary and it's not as wildly funny as are the best Billy Wilder comedies.
Still, it's definitely required viewing for Wilder fans.
