Who better than Marianne Faithfull to portray a "middle-aged frump" who undertakes a most ignominious profession in order to save a stricken grandson? Irina Palm's plot unfolds rather predictably (the hangdog expression on the sex shop owner's face tells you early on that everything will work out okay) but Faithfull brings real dignity to her character and there's great satisfaction in watching her doggedness in the less-than-glorious hole she's found herself in.
