Review of Ip Man 3 (2015) by Betty S — 22 Jan 2016
The plot is a bit jumbled and this movie can be edited shorter. The group fights were forgettable, but the solo fights were really fun to watch.
The film made a good choice to keep Mike Tyson's dialogue to a minimum, every time he spoke everyone in the theater couldn't help from snickering. Tyson's fight scene was well done and he is very charismatic in action. Max Zhang is the up and coming martial arts star to look out for in the future. He has great screen presence and his fight with Donnie Yen is one of the best fights I've ever seen.
Surprisingly, the fights are not the focal point of the plot. The theme of family gave this movie more power and elevated it above the previous films. The relationship between Ip Man and his wife is what carried the film's lasting impression. Lynn Hung gave the film much more dramatic weight than expected from an martial arts genre movie.
