Review of Ip Man 3 (2015) by Kenmei — 07 Nov 2016
After many years, Donny Yen finally comes back to the role that made him a big name in my book at least and it's pretty much a failure. The movie almost feels like 2 smaller movies put together with a small bridge combining the two.
Mike Tyson makes an appearance as a bad guy in the film and his fight scene is certainly the highlight of the film. However, where it was placed in the movie and the "outcome" feels extremely dull.
All the build up to that fight made it disappointing at how it ended. I have to also mention the fact that, while everyone else in the movie has clearly aged, Yen's Ip Man clearly has not, even though he should be about 60 years old in his life during the timeframe of the movie.
It definitely stands out. In the end, Yen should have taken his own advice and not played Ip Man again. The first two movies are some of my favorite Kung Fu movies of all time. This one just felt like a total waste of time.
