No question Freeman and juiced up Damon impressed but the film hungered for greatness and it settled for average - its slow pace was hardly inspirational, the rugby play was unemotional and with a lofty 2:15 runtime it was in dire need of editing, especially its wasted scenes on the President's security staff.
..Mandela and the underdog Springboks deserved better.
